Twins on the run
By
KT Rajagopalan
The question
The twins, Robin and Roger, are crossing a railway bridge. When they are 60% of the way across, they see a train approaching them at some distance. They have to get off the bridge or else they will be run over by the train. Jumping into the water is not an option.
So Robin runs towards the train, and reaches the end of the bridge just when the train reaches that place. Roger decides to run away from the train, and reaches the beginning of the bridge when the train just gets there.
Being twins, they run at the same speed (though they don't seem to be going in the same direction!) If the train travels at 60 km/hour, how fast (in km/ph) do the twins run?
(a) 8 (b) 12 (c) 10 (d) 5
Would you like a hint?
