Puzzle # 16 Brinda's Bikaneri Bargain

Brinda’s Bikaneri Bargain

By

KT Rajagopalan

The question:

It is Brinda’s birthday. She has invited her friends to high tea. For Rs 1,000/- each, Bikaner Bhujiawala is willing to supply two plates more than what Bengali Mishtanna Bhandaar is ready to supply.

Brinda finds that if she places her order with Bikaner Bhujiawala, she would be paying Rs 3000/- less.

We know that she ordered over 50 but less than 100 plates. Exactly how many plates did she order?

(a) 75           (b) 72           (c) 60           (d) 84           (e) 96

Let us see if the conventional approach would deliver the right answer.
