Sea level is the average height of the sea at a point midway between high and low tides. The shore of the Dead Sea is the lowest exposed ground below sea level, but the sea bed is lower still – 728m below the sea level. The deepest point of Lake Baikal in Russia is 1,714m. Some land in Antarctica is 2,538m below sea level, but is covered by a 2,100m-deep ice cap.
