Adoor Gopalakrishnan: Ambivalent, silent endings are his forte

;

It is no wonder that Adoor Gopalakrishnan is looked upon as a filmmaker who set new paradigms for Indian cinema wherein experiments with novel metaphors were conducted with great success. He has gainfully employed his deep knowledge of theatre, especially Kathakali and other performing art forms of Kerala to not only write original stories but also come up with original narrative metaphor as well as deploy innovative cinematic devices with telling impact. Apparently, destiny and genius have come together to gift Indian cinema a sophisticated creative mind.

This biography gives detailed and well-informed information on, and analyses of, various documentaries and feature films made by Adoor Gopalakrishnan. He comes across as a beautiful human being whose compassion for animals is matched by his empathy for fellow human beings. His deep insights into human psyches and situation get portrayed in his films – something the book has been able to underscore successfully. I found this book absolutely unputdownable.

If you are a student of Indian cinema and haven’t read this book your education is incomplete.
